Drag and drop from the host OS into CCRC fails

This technote identifies a defect where the drag and drop capability of copying files from the host operating system (OS) into the IBM® Rational® ClearCase® Remote Client (CCRC) fails, and provides steps to workaround the issue.

Symptom

Cause

Attempts to drag and drop files from the host OS into the CCRC Navigator view result in no files copied.

Example:

Attempts to drag eclipse.ini from the Microsoft® Windows® Explorer IDE into the CCRC Navigator view does not work even though all appearances shows that CCRC will accept the file.

Drag the file from the source folder and drop into the destination folder in CCRC.

No File appears after the drop is complete.

This problem has been identified as defect APAR PK30651.

Resolving the problem

This defect has been resolved in Rational ClearCase version 7.0.1.

WORKAROUNDS:

1. Copy or move the file to the local view root from the host OS and refresh CCRC view.

Example:

  • Open Windows Explorer to the CCRC view root
  • Perform the drag and drop function within that IDE
  • Refresh CCRC

2. Perform the drag and drop by holding down the control key (Ctrl) while releasing (dropping) the file in the destination folder within CCRC. This will permit the copy of host OS files to CCRC Navigator view.

Example:

Attempts to drag eclipse.ini from the Microsoft® Windows® Explorer IDE into the CCRC Navigator view.

Open Windows Explorer to the source folder.

Drag the file to the destination folder within CCRC.
Hold down the Ctrl key and drop the file in the destination folder.

CCRC will request confirmation of the copy operation. Click Yes.

CCRC will automatically refresh and the file will appear in CCRC.

Change request (RFE) RATLC00742703 has also been filed to add the drag and drop functionality in to CCRC Details view. Currently this feature is disabled. Attempt to drop files into the Details view results in the icon below.
