Unable to save session data in session.dat

why attempts to log into the IBM® Rational® ClearCase® Web interface (CCWeb) or the ClearCase Remote Client (CCRC) results in the error Unable to save session data and provides instructions to resolve the problem.

Symptom

Attempts to log into CCWeb or CCRC results in the following error:

An error occurred while processing this request:
Unable to save session data in "D:\Program Files\Rational\ClearCase\var\ccweb\user1\session.dat"

Cause

The file permissions on the session.dat file are too restrictive.

Note: When the permissions on the session.dat file are incorrect, you might also be unable to login and see the following message:

Unable to lock session data file

Resolving the problem

You need to change file permissions for the specific session.dat referenced in the error to allow access.

The user must have read and write permissions while the ClearCase group must have read, write and execute permissions (Full Control).

The default location of the session.dat files are located in the following directories on the RWP server:

UNIX® and Linux®:
/var/adm/rational/clearcase/ccweb//session.dat

Microsoft® Windows®:
C:\Program Files\Rational\ClearCase\var\ccweb\\session.dat

Consult your system administrator or operating system documentation for assistance.

WORKAROUND:

Rename the user directory in , var, ccweb. and try to log in again.

This will create a new directory with that user name that has the correct (default) permissions.
