why the error, Client is too old for this server. Please use a compatible version, might occur when using the IBM® Rational® ClearCase® Remote Client (CCRC) to connect to a server running version 7.0.1.
 
Symptom

Upon upgrading your ClearCase servers to ClearCase 7.0.1, existing CCRC clients attempting to connect to the server using receive the error 

Client is too old for this server. Please use a compatible version.

Note: Attempts to update the existing CCRC client results in the message that there are no updates.

 
Cause

The cause of this problem relates to a version compatibility issue with CCRC.

ClearCase Remote Clients 7.0.1.CU03 or 7.0.1.CU04 will not work with the newer Rational Web Platform (RWP) server that is installed with ClearCase 7.0.1.

Resolving the problem

If you are running a ClearCase RWP server at version 7.0.1, take the following action to upgrade your CCRC clients to the latest version:

Rich Client Platform (stand-alone) installations:

  1. Point your web browser to the http:///ccrc/update directory on the RWP server and download the latest CCRC client bits to install CCRC 7.0.1.D061004.
  2. Install CCRC version 7.0.1.D061004

    Note: Installing the latest CCRC client does not remove or over-write the old installation. The old installation will have to be manually removed if it is no longer needed.
